Twitch publicly confirms cyber breach, and it could be one of the biggest breaches ever seen

Last Wednesday an anonymous hacker claimed to have gained access to the entirety of Twitch, including its source code and information on how much money the company has paid to streamers since August 2019.

Multiple insider sources have confirmed that the threat of leaked data is legitimate, and the company confirmed soon after that “a breach has taken place”.

While the actual contents of the data breach have not been confirmed by Twitch itself, cyber reporter Joe Tidy claims that at least some of the leaked data appears to be genuine. (One of these genuine leaks was an earnings list detailing how much money Twitch has paid to streamers since August 2019.)

Fortnite streamer BBG Calc told BBC News that the leak got his earnings “100% correct” and two other streamers said the figures were “about right”.

So under the assumption that this leak is genuine how big could this breach really be? Well Joe Tidy stated this on BBC News "... if it is all confirmed, it will be the biggest leak I have ever seen – an entire company’s most valuable data cleaned out in one fell swoop."
